Fun, family events don’t get much better than Christmas in Cooroy!

“The event is unique because everything is free including rides, face painting and the Santa visit.  But while those things are attractive to people it is the wealth of unique entertainment and the terrific community atmosphere that really gets people excited,” explained event manager Danielle Taylor.

The day is full of unique and fun free events throughout the day.  The day kicks off with the Santa Sack Races for children sponsored by Cooroy Fish and Chips.  Every child gets a prize for participating and this fun activity is reminiscent of community picnic days.

Next on the program is The Great Santa Race which is a truly amazing spectacle with a crowd of Santa-suit clad runners doing a roughly 300 metre sprint up the main street.  There is a prize pool of $2,400 sponsored by Noosa to Hinterland Plumbing Group and while entry is $10 to compete in this you get a free Santa suit to run in and all the proceeds go to the Leukaemia Foundation.  It is of course free to watch which is just as fun!

The Bendigo Bank Street Parade is a huge drawcard with over 40 floats decorated in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways.  This year the theme is “Fairytales and Legends” and there are always lots of giveaways and lollies handed out into the crowds and people of all ages are just amazed at how great the floats look.

Christmas in Cooroy also features the Cooroy Central Guardian Photo Competition and Exhibition at the Butter Factory Arts Centre, the Hinterland Dental East VS West tug of war, a tremendous fireworks display sponsored by Cooroy RSL, and even a visit from the man of the season, Santa Claus sponsored by Gelignite Jacks. Plus there is lots of free entertainment, live music, market stalls, food stalls and even a bar sponsored by the Cooroy Hotel.

Christmas in Cooroy begins on Saturday 5 December from 4pm until 10pm.

Cooroy also has the QMP Shop Window Trail, with approximately 20 shop windows decorated with Christmas scenes.  Wandering around the town and looking in the windows is a great way to spend a few hours and you can vote for your favourite window for the chance to win a $100 Cooroy Supa IGA Voucher.  The Shop Window Trail is launched on Friday 4 December at 7pm when the town lights including the Ri-con Christmas Tree are turned on for the first time of the year.
