CALL OF THE WILD - DARREN TREBILCO'S SOLO ART EXHIBITION

If you are on the hunt for a walk on the wild side that also caters to more sophisticated tastes, Call of the Wild, Sunshine Coast artist Darren Trebilco's latest solo exhibition, may be just what you are looking for.

Burstinging with Trebilco's trademark bright colours and bold lines, Call of the Wild is a collection of artworks inspired by the artist's strong connection with the animal world.

“The animals I paint speak to me,” says Trebilco of his subjects. “I feel that every human has an inner creative beast and these amazing creatures draw out mine.”

The culmination of a number of years' work, the exhibition is a collection of 30 paintings that have come to life in the artist's Glenview studio.

“I'm surrounded by wildlife here. Not a day goes by that inspiration doesn't fly, scurry or slither past my door. This beautiful, bushy part of the Coast is my paradise.”

With his studio situated within the Solitude Art Gallery, just off the highway behind Aussie World, locals and tourists alike have been dropping in to watch Trebilco's art unfold and chat to the artist as he paints.

“I love connecting with the people who come to visit me. As much as I love my animals, people are the most interesting wildlife there is. And I'm sure I can put on a pretty wild show myself.”

Originating from Tasmania, Trebilco has been a Sunshine Coast local for 10 years. After moving to Glenview 4 years ago, he opened the Solitude Art Gallery and has been treating locals and visitors alike to his original and modern style of art.

“The Sunshine Coast is one of the most beautiful places on Earth to live. My wife and I want to raise our children here and we feel we've really found heaven for growing a family with so much bush and wild life around.”

Trebilco works in a variety of media, including oils, acrylic, pastels and charcoal, offering visitors a style that will keep even the most hardened art enthusiast intrigued.

“I like to keep everyone, including myself, on my toes. I get bored easily by art that is predictable and cliché so I just flow with whatever is going on around me at the time. I never know what will flow out of me next.”

Members of the public are invited to Call of the Wild 's openning night on Friday, November 26th from 6pm-9pm, with wine and canapés provided. The exhibition is available for viewing until December 16th during Solitude Art Gallery's openning hours, 10am-5pm, Wednesday to Saturday.
