Sunshine Coast students are encouraged to walk, scoot or skate to school for Walk Safely to School Day on Friday 22 May 2015. Thousands of students around Australia will participate.

Register now

Students within the Sunshine Coast Council region who wish to participate should register online before 22 May 2015 to enter a prize draw to win one of ten scooters, ten skateboards plus other minor prizes.

Walking regularly can improve your child’s health. It can help prevent chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues, and diabetes. It also helps reduce traffic and parking problems around schools, and teaches your child about road safety.

Remember: if driving to school is your only option, you can still participate by parking the car at least a kilometre away and then walking from there.

Safety tips

  • Children younger than 10 should always hold an adult’s hand when crossing the road.
  • Drivers should always be alert and considerate when in a school zone. If you are      driving near schools on Walk Safely to School Day please take extra care.
