Friday 22 November sees CAPTAIN FIGHTING MACHINE take to the stage in The Bunker as part of an album launch tour. They'll be supported by ZAC GUNTHORPE.

CAPTAIN FIGHTING MACHINE

Over the last 12 months, a weekend here, a weekend there, has brought some small amount of joy and an overwhelmed heart to audiences in Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania, including a set as silent as death at Dark Mofo.

This November, for the first time, overnight bags will be replaced by luggage as they embark on a trip down the East Coast with eight shows taking in the capital cities and surrounds - including Eumundi!

Captain Fighting Machine is the new project led by Conor Macdonald, and on this tour, he is joined by fellow Gin Club alumni Angus Agars, Adrian Stoyles and Ben Salter.

The four piece will be launching the debut Captain Fighting Machine record, a collection of songs that explore the tension between bleakness and hope, while confronting grief and the enormity of life.

The album's 10 songs were recorded live in a makeshift studio at the tail end of a cold Tasmanian winter, with warmth breathed in back home over the course of a Brisbane summer.

They ruminate on the extremes of the Queensland environment, regional life, sleepless nights and an unrelenting belief in the need to find a way through.

Treading the path laid by Jason Molina and Mark Linkous, David Berman and Will Oldham, Captain Fighting Machine capture the spirit of life, drawing the listener in and clinging tight, cause we all need to have each other’s back.

ZAC GUNTHORPE

An engaging live performer, Zac Gunthorpe doesn't need anything more than his guitar and his voice to enchant the night. Be prepared to dive under the facile surface of day-to-day appearances, into understated complexity and nuance.

Zac’s albums ‘Glory Bound’ (2015) and last year’s ‘Ghost Of The Town’ showcase a song writing maturity well beyond his years – as he weaves together emotional tales of love and loss.

“All I’ve ever wanted to do is write songs and be true to them,” says Zac.

It might sound like an obvious approach, but some musicians take years to discover it. For Gunthorpe there was never any other way, which tells you much about the young songwriter and his music.
