Stillness of the mind can only come  through stillness of the body

In this Yin yoga workshop you will go deeper with longer held poses to create greater calmness of the mind and more openness and flexibility of the body.

Yin yoga is a perfect counterbalance for us in our busy lives with the mind constantly processing information, as it allows us to drop into ‘being ‘, rather than ‘doing’. Holding poses longer and passively in Yin practice is deeply nourishing and has a myriad of benefits, for both the body and the mind.

In these asanas (poses) we move beyond the muscles, which are Yang, as they’re soft & elastic, into the Yin connective tissues (the ligaments & the fascia), which are stiff & inelastic. By keeping the muscles soft, we release deeper layers of connective tissue, increasing mobility in the body, especially in the joints and hips, which can help with our seated meditations.

On a subtler level, the Yin sequences improve the flow of prana (chi/life-force) through the energy channels (nadis/meridians) into the internal organs and tissues around the joints, where energy may have become stagnant.

Through the practice of Yin yoga, we can successfully combine both asanas and meditation into a deeply transformative practice.

Suitable for all levels.

Please bring your own mat and bolster and wear comfortable, modest clothing.

Venerable Kartson, Chenrezig Institute's interpreter extraordinaire, will be leading us in a morning meditation on the body and mind, bringing a wonderful dimension to our day. When this type of meditation is practiced together with yoga, it allows us to slow down and open more deeply, to calmly acknowledge our thoughts, emotions and physical sensations in and out of our yoga practice.

Established 1974, Chenrezig Institute is a centre for Buddhist study, meditation, retreat and practice nestled in the foothills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The Institute is home to a Tibetan Geshe (Lama), a large community of ordained Sangha (monks and nuns), students, residents, volunteers, retreat goers and guests.

Apart from the formal study programmes, Chenrezig Institute is a peaceful, calm and relaxing place to spend a few hours, days or weeks. Stroll along the bush paths, wander in formal garden, espresso in the cafe or a vegetarian meal.

Also below the far carpark is ‘The Wellbeing Centre’ which provides courses focusing on cultivating physical, emotional and mental balance and wellbeing. They include authentic traditional and modern psychological approaches to health and lifestyle. They are suitable for everyone who maybe looking for genuine happiness and well-being in a non-religious framework.
