Experience the joys of group harmony singing and performing in this three-day intensive class. With consummate and highly experienced singing, confidence and performance coach Yani, you'll learn a variety of songs from her favourite styles including gospel, African and uplifting pop. Plus Yani will impart her wisdom on vocal technique, stagecraft, her performing philosophy, the importance of rhythm, movement, emotional intention and more.
With more than 37 years of experience as a stage performer/singer and directing choirs since 1993, Yani will expertly guide singers to feeling not only performance ready, but rather excited about it.
Participants are to come along ready to perform at the conclusion of instruction and keep minds, hearts and mouths open. Please bring brightly coloured stage worthy outfits for performance (the brighter and more fun the better).
Day One
- Introduction to Yani and Chris plus overview of the three-days vision, as well as day-to-day breakdown.
- Yani's comprehensive vocal warm-up games and techniques, plus instruction on the importance of listening, positioning in a choir, working together for a common goal and what it means to be in a group.
- Yani will teach three groove-based gospel songs. Songs will be chosen based on the strengths of participant’s vocal technique tips and stagecraft is included throughout the process.
- Choosing soloists for songs revision of the days songs with songs with dance and choreography ideas.
Day Two
- Warm-ups and day timeline.
- Recap day one incl. songs as well as learn three new songs with vocal technique tips included throughout.
- Revision of all songs and more stage craft ideas.
- Choir sectionals (different sections will go out to keep learning with each other while Yani works closely with soloists).
Day Three
- Warm-ups and day timeline.
- Recap all songs and fix any issues.
- Tweak all songs with a focus on performance.
- Hone performances and add staging and position singers/performers.
This workshop is aimed at adults primarily. Ages 8 and over are welcome to attend, however, they must be accompanied by a guardian (18+) who is enrolled in this same class. Learn more about masterclass host Yani ChoirMistress.
