Keep Your Eyes on the Pies!
Crumbs are set to fly this Sunday at the Jockey Club Hotel’s annual Pie Eating competition, as part of their annual Australia Day celebrations.
The uniquely Australian pie eating extravaganza is all in the name of fun and a worthy cause. Now in its fourth year, the event is a major fundraiser for Gympie’s local SES.
The competition will be won by the first person to smash down three meat pies. Last year the competition was taken by an ‘out of towner Pie-lympian’ who not only demolished his three pies, he then ate another two of the other contestant’s pies while waiting for them to finish!
Organiser and 'Pie Master' Murray Bradley said, ‘The Pie Eating competition was a huge success last year raising over $1,000 for the local SES, and that was even when we were flooded out. People are still talking about the event today!”
There will be an even bigger local feel to the contest with our sponsor Beefy’s pies being called upon again to supply their award winning pies.
“This year we have again teamed up with Beefy’s and I’m really looking forward to the event. Australia Day wouldn't be complete without a meat pie eating contest, would it?” said Murray.
This hilarious event is open to kids and adults and everyone is welcome to participate on Australia Day, Sunday 26th January. The pie eating competition entries are taken on the day with only eight places available for both categories so get in early. Entry is $5 with the pie eating competition kicking off from 3pm.
The Australia day celebrations at the hotel commence from 10am and also include Beach Volleyball with sand kindly donated by Campbells Landscaping, live music, Pig on a spit lunch, free Waterslide/jumping castle, Zorb balls, Mud crab races, and much more.
For more information on the event phone the Jockey Club hotel on 5482 1270.
