Everyone who meditates has to discover how to sit, without the sitting position itself being a source of constant distraction. The Feldenkrais Method is an approach to understanding movement and posture. This knowledge can be applied to all aspects of movement such as improving flexibility, walking and standing as well as providing a way to study the postures that are needed for sitting for long periods, such as in meditation. Jane has a background as an occupational therapist and has been a Buddhist practitioner and Feldenkrais teacher for many years.

Venerable Tsondru is a Buddhist nun and a student of Chenrezig Institute’s Buddhist Study Program. She teaches beginner meditation courses and leads shamatha practice days at Chenrezig Institute. Meditation and the Art of Sitting day will consist of a range of Feldenkrais lessons involving small, mindful movement sequences, often done lying down. There will also be time for individual problem solving and explorations of the many options for comfortable sitting. The sitting can then be trialled in meditation sessions. The guided meditation sessions will be in both sitting and supine positions. They are suitable for everyone and you don’t have to be Buddhist to enjoy them. Wear comfortable loose clothing and bring any sitting aids that you might like such as favourite cushion or blanket.
