Established in 2002, Yandina Community Gardens Inc. (YCG) is a Volunteer-run community group dedicated to teaching people to grow their own organic food and live more sustainably through Permaculture. Our gardens and club house demonstrate Permaculture, organic food production and sustainable living, and visitors can learn through observation and regular structured activities (e.g., guided garden tours, workshops, hands-on learning through volunteering). We embrace a collective community garden model rather than an individual plot model – we sow together, grow together & harvest together. Our Volunteers value YCG as an avenue of support, connection and belonging. We inspire and teach people to grow their own nutritious food, be healthy, active, and connected, and live sustainably. We focus on simple, affordable ways to grow healthy, nutritious, organic food without expensive equipment or fertilisers, with the aim of improving health and reducing the cost of living. Efficient housing, energy and resource use is also demonstrated and taught. We encourage community members to make healthy food choices (e.g., a variety of fresh produce) and hold workshops on how to prepare produce. We are dedicated to the Permaculture Principles of Care of Earth, Care of People and Sharing Surplus. We are open 3 days per week, including Saturday mornings. YCG is a place of beauty, creativity, inspiration, learning, fun, and connection. As well as volunteering, people are invited to become financial Members of our organisation. Social gatherings are organised for Members and Volunteers throughout the year
